SEA CORP of Middletown, RI Awarded $20 Million Navy Small Business Innovation Contract

Systems Engineering Associates Corporation (SEA CORP) of Middletown has been awarded a five-year, $20 Million contract from the Naval Sea Systems Command under the Federal Small Business Innovative Research (SBIR) program.  SEA CORP will support the Combat Systems Department of the Naval Undersea Warfare Center in Newport, Rhode Island.  SEA CORP, with the help of Middletown's McLaughlin Research Corporation, will continue to develop and update an innovative process to collect and analyze submarine electronic, weapons and other combat system test data. The process utilizes state-of-the-art software routines that make collection of data much more efficient, reducing the time required to analyze the effectiveness of systems, improve system certifications, and develop improvements.

The SBIR program offers incentives to businesses of less than 500 employees to allow them to capitalize on their innovative research. This contract is one of two SBIR contracts that SEA CORP currently holds that have been selected as Navy SBIR Success Stories that showcase the best efforts in the SBIR program.  SEA CORP has also been awarded the prestigious SBIR National Level Tibbetts Award for SBIR innovation excellence.

“This is a continuation of the support we have provided to the Navy in this area for many years,” said Mac McDevitt, SEA CORP’s Senior Vice President for Combat Systems. “We are glad to continue our support in a warfare area that helps enable improvement in the quality of test and evaluation of submarine non propulsion electronic systems. Test and evaluation is critical to successful introduction of operational capabilities to the fleet.”

SEA CORP President Larry Willner added, "This award underscores one of SEA CORP's core competencies in the ability be innovative and develop new products that have a real impact in the effectiveness of our Naval Forces."

SEA CORP, a locally-owned Rhode Island business, was founded in Newport in 1981.  They provide a wide variety of systems and engineering services primarily to Government customers.  The company is headquartered in Middletown’s Aquidneck Corporate Park.  They employ about 350 professionals including engineers, scientists, technicians and management support personnel.
